I have been working in the technology sector for nearly 30 years, starting out as a database developer I transitioned through the industry covering areas like general support desk work to designing and deploying HA Datacentres. With a strong background in secure networks and security auditing, everything I strive to do aligns with the latest security standards and best practices.

DevOps Engineer

Onyx Insight: Nottingham, UKJan 2023 - Present

My role at Onyx Insight has seen me offered the DevOps Lead role within the first 8 months of being there. On top of that I am now leading the task of implementing ISO27001 across our AWS platform environments and have Information Security Officer responsibilities added to my contract for the AWS product environment.

  • Conducted comprehensive security assessments across multiple AWS accounts
  • Provided actionable vulnerability reports to senior management which highlighted critical risks within the core products
  • Collaborated with external industry experts to present risk-versus-reward analysis to senior management that steered the business to a drastic change into a security first mentality
  • Advised on the implementation of robust security measures for ~8000 IoT devices, decreasing potential attack vectors and improving overall system integrity
  • Implemented more streamlined deployment processes for customer onboarding within the platform, ensuring the process removes risk of misconfiguration
  • Had a critical hand in the direction of the companys core product moving into 2024, liaising with industry giants to come up with solutions for their requirements – this will now be implemented to smaller customers as our default offering

    Originally employed to be the single point for the Engineers, Project Managers & Senior Managers to go to for recommendations and solutions for the technology stack at NBS, this role quickly evolved to cover security auditing, recommendations, policy writing and training with the aim of bringing the NBS technology stack in line with the CIS Framework.

    With an aged infrastructure, I also designed, priced up and planned a full migration to Azure for for approximately 500 VMs including a core banking platform.

    Elevated the business' security posture by implementing a number of security solutions including:

  • Rapid 7 IVM implementation & training
  • Implementation & training CIS Framework
  • Network segregation and isolation

    Barbon Insurance GroupApr 2020 - Aug 2021

    Responsible for the day to day running of the Infrastructure team, I managed a small but highly skilled team of Engineers that dealt with a hybrid AWS / On-Premise environment.

    I was also responsible for the design and implementation of a new AWS Infrastructure environment to facilitate the migration of our On-Premise and backup datacentres. With a strong emphasis on disaster recorvery, I designed and implemented a solution that did away with having to be On-Premise to work just as Covid hit. This also included my team and I ensuring that 300+ call centre staff could function from home securely using an "always on" Palo Alto solution.

    Part of a small Infrastructure team, my role was to ensure that the infrastructure of Barbon and its subsidiaries remain up, secure and compliant against strict government policies.

    Main duties included were not limited to:

  • Pushing Staging to Live in the companies AWS infrastructure
  • Providing technical support for the Dev Team with regards to AWS Infrastructure

  • Server security management (windows server, desktop and multi flavour linux)
